Thumbs Up for Treadle Training

In eight days we will be arriving in Port au Prince and setting up our sewing work stations.  With God's grace we will meet our Haitian students on Saturday, January 15th, and begin our week-long mission of teaching them enough sewing skills to produce some marketable projects.  If we can help one person earn enough money to keep their family together, preventing orphaned children, we will have succeeded.  God is directing our path and going before us to prepare the way . . . we are trusting Him for our travel safety, our safe and uneventful arrival in Haiti, for strength and good health, for our teaching and listening skills and for an opportunity to bless and encourage Shelley and Corrigan Clay at The Apparent Project.

In preparation for our trip, we secured and shipped 8 sewing machines that arrived in Haiti weeks ago.  To make sure that we could continue sewing in the event of a power failure, we will be doing some teaching on treadle sewing machines. What a hoot!  Thanks to Arda and her expertise, we have slowly but surely been learning the tricks to operating a treadle machine.  I have to admit that I felt pretty uncoordinated at first, but I think I have it down.  Here are a few pictures of my experience, along with Carol who was my first student.  Carol was a much quicker learner . . . . could it be the teacher?  HaHa!
